About

The International Institute for Peace (IIP) is a UNESCO Category II organization dedicated to the promotion of research and education on peacebuilding, conflict transformation, and the cultivation of a culture of peace. The IIP builds partnerships locally and globally by working with grassroots organizations, youth leaders, activists, artists, journalists, educators and researchers to promote peacebuilding, conflict transformation, and a just and sustainable peace.
Founded in 2011 the IIP is based at Rutgers University, Newark, which is annually ranked by U.S. News and World Report as one of the most diverse national universities in the country. We are located in Newark, New Jersey, a 20-minute train ride from midtown Manhattan. The IIP is in the School of Arts and Sciences-Newark and is synergistically connected with the graduate program in Peace and Conflict Studies.
Starting in Fall 2022, the International Institute for Peace (IIP) is the home of Critical Studies of Iraq, a project which aims to support, foster and develop critical scholarship by social scientists and feminists based in Iraq.
