The International Institute for Peace (IIP) is a UNESCO Category II organization dedicated to the promotion of research and education on peacebuilding and conflict transformation through nonviolent struggle, and the cultivation of a culture of peace.  The IIP builds partnerships locally and globally by working with grassroots organizations, youth leaders, activists, artists, journalists, educators and researchers to promote peacebuilding, nonviolent conflict transformation, and a just and sustainable peace.

Founded in 2011 the IIP is based at Rutgers University, Newark, which is annually ranked by U.S. News and World Report as the most diverse national university in the country.  We are located in Newark, New Jersey, a 20-minute train ride from midtown Manhattan.  The IIP is part in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and is synergistically connected with the graduate program in Peace and Conflict Studies.

The IIP collaborates with the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict to promote research and education on civil resistance.  Annually since 2012 we have offered an online graduate level course, People Power: The Study of Strategic Nonviolent Resistance.  Credit is available through the Graduate School, Rutgers University, Newark.  The next course runs from October 2, 2019 to November 22, 2019.
