Please join us for an Author Talks reading with Nancy Méndez-Booth and paulA neves.

Nancy Méndez-Booth is a writer of Puerto Rican descent, and teaches writing and Latinx literature. Her writing has appeared in publications including Poets & Writers, Latina, Salon, OZY,, and is included in the Latina Outsiders: Remaking Latina Identity anthology. Nancy has performed at venues including Cornelia Street Café, The Moth and Midtown International Theatre Festival, and has received awards to attend Vermont Studio Center, Martha's Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing, and Blue Mountain Center. In 2017, Nancy was invited to the New Jersey Women Playwrights Project for development support of a one-woman show. She is a member of the touring troupe of Thinking in Full Color, an arts organization that empowers women of color through theater. She has a BA in English from Amherst College, and an MA in English Critical Theory and an MFA in Creative Writing, both from Rutgers-Newark. paulA neves, a Luso-American writer, mixed media artist, educator and Newark native, is the author of the poetry collection capricornucopia: the dream of the goats (Finishing Line Press 2018) and the co-author (with photographer Nick Kline) of the poetry/photography risograph book Shirts & Skins (Shine Portrait Studio Press 2017). paulA's visual art has been in exhibits at Morris Arts, Index Art Center, the West Orange Arts Council and in the Glassbook Project collection. paulA's themes include family, identity, immigration, (dis)place(ment), work, and spirituality. Author Talks is a partnership between Rutgers University Newark MFA and Military Park offering readings on Tuesdays from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM from June to October at the Military Park Reading Room.
