Federated Department of History | Accelerated B.A./M.A. or M.A.T.

Rutgers University-Newark’s department of history offers highly qualified undergraduate students the opportunity to earn a graduate degree in less time and with less cost than doing the two separately. In our accelerated bachelor’s/master’s degree program, students can take graduate courses in their senior year, while they are still enrolled as undergraduates.

How this works:

  • Students apply for admission in the second semester of their junior year (or equivalent)
  • If accepted and enrolled, they begin graduate work in their senior year.
  • During the senior year, they can take up to twelve credits of graduate courses while paying undergraduate tuition
  • These courses fulfill requirements in both the undergraduate and graduate degree programs during the senior year
  • For the remainder of the Master’s Program students will be enrolled in the graduate school and will pay graduate tuition. For information about our graduate MA program visit here.
