Learning Goals for Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies:
Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies develops, through interdisciplinary study, critical thinking, research, and writing skills for majors and minors who specialize in the field of gender and sexuality studies. Students take a combination of core courses that introduce them to foundational ideas in the field and elective courses that allow them to experience how the field frames more traditional disciplines. The connection between reading, writing, and oral communication in the presentation of ideas is continually emphasized and reinforced in all of the course content.
Program graduates are expected to have developed analytical and critical thinking skills about how gender and sexuality defines their everyday experiences, as well as how it shapes political policy, scientific inquiry and the content of a variety of disciplines. Our graduates are expected to be well-prepared for graduate study given that they should be able to apply the analytical approaches and methods of a variety of related disciplines in the humanities and social sciences to their particular field of study.
The Program in Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies actively seeks to provide the residents of the state of New Jersey and beyond with a high standard of education that is relevant to the global realities of a diverse, dynamic and inter-related world.
