The psychology department at Rutgers University – Newark (RU-N) is made up of world-class experts in developmental, perceptual, social psychology, and cognitive neuroscience. Members of our department engage in research collaborations that cross departments, campuses, institutions, and countries, engaging with and serving the greater Newark area, providing invaluable hands-on lab experience to undergraduates, and fostering student involvement in research. It is also home to the most popular RU-N major.
The psychology department also offers a Ph.D. in psychology with specializations in developmental psychology, neuroscience, perception/cognition, and social psychology across a variety of research topics. Much of the research conducted in our department currently is supported through federal, state, and private grants. Our research is enhanced by several facilities, including numerous local collaborating daycare centers and the Rutgers University Brain Imaging Center (RUBIC), which houses a state-of-the-art 3T Siemens TRIO for neuroimaging studies. Students also are encouraged to take advantage of training opportunities in the adjacent Center for Molecular and Behavioral Neuroscience, the Dept. of Social Work, the Rutgers Business School (Information Sciences), the School of Criminal Justice, the School of Nursing, the Department of Biological Sciences, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences, the Institute for Data Science and Learning, and the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Overall, the Rutgers University — Newark Psychology Department conducts world-class research while training the next generation to be excellent consumers and producers of psychological science.
