Requirements for a Major in Philosophy
Major requirements for students who registered for the major after August 2011. The former requirements still apply for students who registered for the major before August 2011 (please consult with Dr. De Rosa for details).
Students must take a total of 36 credits in Philosophy distributed as follows:

730:103 Introduction to Philosophy | 3 |
730:201 Introduction to Logic | 3 |
730:212 Introduction to Ethics or 730:205 Current Moral and Social Issues | 3 |
730:306 Greek Philosophy and 730:307 Modern Philosophy | 6 |
Three 400-level courses (any topic) offered by the Philosophy Department | 9 |
Four additional 300- or 400-level courses offered by the Philosophy Department | 12 |
Total | 36 |
Please note: Courses listed above are denoted by the new course numbers for philosophy that took effect in 2010. If you took the same course under the old course number prior to January 2010, it will still count toward your major. All majors and minors should consult with Dr. De Rosa, who will help them to negotiate the changes in course numbering and make sure they are meeting the requirements.
