Course Description: This course will focus on the fundamental principles of geochemistry and the application to natural systems. Coursework will involve text and additional readings, hand calculations and interpretation of geochemical data.
Course objectives: To provide students with foundational knowledge in geochemistry with a focus on near-surface earth and environmental systems. Upon completion of this course students are expected to:
(1) understand fundamental chemical principles in the context of earth processes
(2) express geochemical concepts using both qualitative and quantitative approaches
(3) recognize and apply theoretical geochemical concepts to real-world scenarios
