Graduate students convened at the Highlands Environmental Research Institute (HEnRI) in Tuxedo, NY to foster interdisciplinary interaction within the Earth and Environmental Sciences and Ecology departments on the Rutgers Newark campus. Challenges and opportunities of being a graduate research student were discussed with opportunities for small group discussions.
Each graduate student presented a 5-minute powerpoint presentation on their ongoing and/or future research. This gave the graduate students the opportunity to practice communicating their research in an informal setting also leading to synergistic opportunities for student collaborations.
A large portion of the morning session was devoted to data management planning. Presentations were given by Physical Sciences Librarian, Bonnie Fong and Data Science Librarian, Minglu Wang.
An Earth & Environmental Sciences data management webpage is available at: http://libguides.rutgers.edu/data_EES. Slides presented at the retreat and the department seminar are available at: http://libguides.rutgers.edu/content.php?pid=293369&sid=2408416.
