March 19, 2021
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Asian, Asian American and Pacific Islander communities have seen a dramatic increase in incidents of xenophobia and bigotry. Indeed, The Asian Pacific Planning and Policy Council (A3PCON) received reports of more than 3,795 incidents of hate crimes against AAPI community members from March 19, 2020 to February 28, 2021.
SASN stands in solidarity with faculty, students, staff and community members who are members of AAPI communities. We are one family, and we reject any and all actions that undermine your safety or well-being. Please know that we are here with you and here for you!
In times like these we often wonder what we can do to be of support. Here are two ideas:
- If you experience or witness acts of discrimination or aggression against AAPI individuals or businesses, please report these incidents to A3PCON.
- For ideas on how to be an effective ally for people experiencing bias, please see the following:
We are always stronger together.
Warmly,
Jacqueline Mattis, Dean on behalf of SASN
